I love the simple quiet way the film presents a real, concrete -example of sustainability at the local level. Not flashy or over-dramatic, but well-constructed, well-paced and enigmatic, revealing the answer at the end in a satisfying and hopeful conclusion. The film proves that we don’t have to think big or drive ourselves mad with worry. We just need to act.

Cinematic, dynamic and very well-made, the film proposes a single powerful message, that imagination can change the world. I agree with that.

"piece by piece" has a humorous and kind perspective, like a human comedy. It doesn't flatly assert or correct anyone with a "No!". It's like the sun in the fairy tale "The North Wind and the Sun." The message that a gentle approach can change society and naturally increase our numbers of friends was well conveyed. Community design techniques for creating places where people can gather are evident. All the works share a common theme: the importance and richness of connecting generations while protecting resources. They also teach us that well-being lies beyond sustainability.

As a Sophia University graduate, I felt happy to see so many examples of sustainable choices that can be made on campus right now. There are easy choices, and there are choices that are a little kinder to the future. We can choose either path, but I want to believe that each person’s choice can help create a slightly better future.

A gentle, humorous and touching film that was quite unique among all the entrants in that it showed how sustainability depends on human bonds, on time, on generosity and simple everyday acts of kindness. Sustainability is the human condition. We just forgot that.

Using simple practical effects and animation, “STAR” shares a powerful message of “reuse” rather than “recycle.” Communicated with imagination and humor through the character of an animated plastic cup named Star, the film is fun, innovative, and packs a powerful message
